About this role
You will support U.S. healthcare practices as part of their revenue cycle team. A large part of each day is spent on live calls with U.S. insurance payer representatives: navigating IVR systems, confirming eligibility and benefits, and recording deductibles, copays, coinsurance, out of pocket limits, plan type, network status and call reference numbers. You will enter and maintain patient demographic and insurance data in athenahealth or a similar practice management system, and catch discrepancies before they turn into claim denials or delays. The role is independent and detail heavy, and you will handle confidential patient information every day.
What you’ll do
- Make outbound calls to U.S. insurance companies to verify patient eligibility and benefits
- Navigate payer IVR systems and speak confidently with payer representatives
- Confirm and record deductibles, copays, coinsurance, out of pocket limits, plan type and in network status
- Record call reference numbers and document every verification accurately
- Enter and maintain patient demographic and insurance data in athenahealth or a similar system
- Identify discrepancies that could lead to claim denials or delays, and follow up until they are resolved
- Work independently and handle confidential patient information with discretion
- Meet productivity and quality standards
What we’re looking for
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in U.S. medical billing, insurance verification or U.S. healthcare revenue cycle management (RCM)
- Experience making outbound calls to U.S. insurance companies
- Insurance eligibility and benefits verification
- Working knowledge of U.S. healthcare revenue cycle management
- Accurate patient demographic and insurance data entry
- athenahealth or a similar EHR or practice management system
- Strong knowledge of U.S. healthcare insurance terminology
- Strong spoken and written English communication
- Thorough documentation and follow up
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
