MEP Design Engineer - Plumbing (PHE)

RemoteFull-TimeU.S. business hours

This is plumbing and fire-fighting design specifically, not general MEP and not HVAC. If your background is plumbing and PHE with no HVAC at all, that is fine - the HVAC side is not part of this role. What is required is 4+ years designing plumbing and fire-fighting systems for residential and commercial buildings, and the calculations that sit behind them: hydraulic calculations for water supply, drainage and sprinkler, water demand and tank sizing, and pipe sizing across the system. The JD is explicit on one point and so are we. This person should not function merely as a CAD or Revit drafter, but as a full design engineer. You would own the analysis, not just model what someone else calculated. AutoCAD, Revit MEP and BIM 360 are all required, and clash detection and resolution is a named responsibility rather than an occasional task. If your experience is drafting plumbing layouts from another engineers calculations, this role is likely not a fit.

Design plumbing and fire-fighting systems end to end for hotels, schools, restaurants and fitness clubs - hydraulic calculations, tank sizing, AutoCAD and Revit MEP models, BOQs, and BIM 360 clash resolution.

About this role

This is a plumbing and fire-fighting design role, not a general MEP one. You would take systems from concept through detailed design for residential and commercial buildings - hotels, schools, restaurants and fitness clubs - covering cold and hot water supply, hot water return, drainage, stormwater, rainwater harvesting, sewer and venting systems, sewage ejectors, and the fire side: sprinkler, hydrant and fire pump systems. The calculations are yours. Hydraulic calculations for water supply, drainage and sprinkler, water demand and tank capacity sizing, and pipe sizing across the whole system. From there you produce detailed layouts, schematics and 3D models in AutoCAD 2020, Revit MEP 2020 and BIM 360, prepare BOQs and material take-offs, and put together complete project documentation. Clash detection matters here. You would take an active part in BIM 360 coordination, finding and resolving multidisciplinary clashes with the architectural, structural and electrical teams rather than flagging them and waiting. The JD is explicit that this person should not function merely as a CAD or Revit drafter, but as a full design engineer who owns the analysis behind the drawings. Every design has to comply with the applicable codes, the project specification and engineering standards. This is a fully remote position for a candidate based in India or the Philippines, working U.S. business hours.

What you’ll do

  • Develop plumbing and fire-fighting systems from concept through detailed design
  • Design cold water, hot water and hot water return systems
  • Design sewer drainage and venting systems
  • Design rainwater harvesting and stormwater drainage
  • Design sewage ejector systems
  • Design fire-fighting systems - sprinkler, hydrant and fire pump
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for water supply, drainage and sprinkler systems
  • Perform water demand calculations and tank sizing
  • Perform pipe sizing calculations across the system
  • Prepare detailed layouts, schematics and 3D models in AutoCAD 2020, Revit MEP 2020 and BIM 360
  • Take an active part in BIM 360 coordination and resolve multidisciplinary clashes
  • Prepare BOQs, material take-offs and complete project documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, project specifications and engineering standards
