MEP Engineer/Drafter - HVAC, Plumbing & Sprinkler

RemoteFull-TimeU.S. business hours

This is an engineering role, not a drafting-only role. You must be able to design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems yourself - running heating and cooling load calculations, hydraulic calculations, and equipment selection - and then produce the construction drawings, layouts, schedules, and risers that follow from them. AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP or equivalent load-calculation software are all mandatory, as is direct experience on U.S. projects and working knowledge of U.S. building and MEP codes. If your experience is drafting from someone else's markups, or you have not worked on U.S. projects, this role is likely not a fit.

Design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for U.S. residential and commercial projects - load and hydraulic calculations, equipment selection, and the full construction document set that follows. This is an engineering role with design ownership, not drafting-only production work.

About this role

This is a full MEP design role for a consulting practice working on U.S. residential and commercial projects. You will own systems end to end: designing HVAC, plumbing, and sprinkler layouts, running heating and cooling load calculations in HAP or equivalent software, performing hydraulic calculations, selecting and scheduling equipment, and then producing the construction drawings, layouts, schedules, and riser diagrams that carry the design to site. You will design to U.S. building and MEP codes, so direct experience on U.S. projects is essential rather than desirable. The work is collaborative: you will coordinate your systems with the architectural and structural teams, and you will join design review calls over Zoom with the U.S. team to walk through your work and explain the reasoning behind your decisions. We are looking for an engineer who takes full ownership, asks clarifying questions rather than assuming, raises problems early, and stands behind the accuracy of what they issue. This is a fully remote position for a candidate based in India, working U.S. business hours.

What you’ll do

  • Design HVAC systems for U.S. residential and commercial buildings
  • Design plumbing systems - domestic water, sanitary, and storm
  • Design sprinkler and fire protection systems
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations using HAP or equivalent software
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems
  • Select and schedule equipment based on your own calculation results
  • Produce MEP construction drawings, layouts, schedules, and riser diagrams in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Design to U.S. building and MEP codes and standards
  • Coordinate MEP designs with the architectural and structural teams and resolve clashes
  • Join design review calls over Zoom and clearly articulate and defend your design decisions
  • Manage several project requirements at once and deliver to deadline

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on HVAC system design experience
  • Hands-on plumbing system design experience
  • Hands-on sprinkler and fire protection system design experience
  • AutoCAD (mandatory)
  • Revit (mandatory)
  • HAP or similar HVAC load-calculation software (mandatory)
  • Heating and cooling load calculations
  • Hydraulic calculations
  • Equipment selection
  • MEP construction drawings, layouts, schedules, and risers
  • Direct experience on U.S. projects (mandatory)
  • Working knowledge of U.S. building and MEP codes and standards
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, MEP Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong written English
  • Full design-through-documentation ownership - this is an engineering role, not a drafting-only role

Nice to have

  • Experience coordinating MEP designs with architectural and structural teams
  • Ability to explain and defend design decisions in technical reviews
  • Multi-project management skills
